Regulations
Before operating the aeroplane, please ensure you are fully
conversant with the company operating guidelines contained within the Company Regulations.
These can be viewed as a web page for easy on-line reference, or can be saved in
Acrobat for home use. To access either version you will require the password to
enter the restricted area of this website.

Before you fly
In order to fly from VL, you must complete the following
checklist:
- Make an on-line booking through the website
- Check the weather and ensure
conditions are Green or better
- Call the DATCO via ATC (01935 455428) or the the Exchange
(01935 840551)
- Call the OOW and Fire Station via the Exchange
- Complete a full walkround (from the FRCs!!!)
- Check oil is above 9L
- Pull through the prop at least 9 times
Flying operations
Flying at VL is conducted under Glider Club Rules when
operating out of hours. A full set of rules is available in Ops, though we hope to
have our own copy in the near future. It is likely that a new group will also be
formed soon under whose guidelines we will all have to operate.
If operating in the local area, you may find these
frequencies useful:
- NATO Common Tower - 122.1
- Yeovil Radar - 127.35
- Heron Glider - 129.975
- Henstridge Radio - 130.25
- Compton Radio - 123.25
- Bournemouth Radar - 119.47
- Check these frequencies before you come to rely on them!
Flight Charges
Regulations covering all flight charges are laid out in the
company regs. The brief version is:
- £84 per hour - wet
- Chargeable in 5 min blocks
- Divided 50/50 if two are flying
- 100% payable by individual if on a training or check ride
- Rebates are available on fuel bought elsewhere if receipts
are forwarded. No receipt = you pay twice... you have been
warned!
- Fuel rebates limited to 90p a litre (landing fees not
included)
Post Flight
Ensure water is drained (port side of engine under
cowling). Refuel the aircraft and replenish oil. Put the aeroplane back in No
1 spot on LHS of 3 Hangar. Make sure the following checks are made:
- Mags set to "0" (OFF) in front and rear cockpit
- Air valve turned to OFF
- Battery Master set to OFF (middle position)
- Chocks IN
- Brakes released
- Control locks IN
